2020’s been crazy. It seems that everyone I talk to has their own, personal layers of upset that go beyond the overarching disturbances of a global pandemic and the mayhem of our city’s and nation’s civil unrest. Losing jobs, starting jobs, relatives dying, moving to new cities, buying houses, babies being born, children being adopted, companies being acquired, businesses and property being vandalized, responsibilities being reassigned…
Many times, I have sat on the couch with my guitar, surrendering the difficult things set before me (and others) to the Lord, composing and quieting my soul that I may hope and trust in the Lord, and not in my own strength or ability (Psalm 131). Over the past months, I have grown more and more in love with the complete ‘otherness’ of God - that his everlasting way of unshakable peace, hope, love, validation, compassion, and so much more stand in such breathtaking contrast to the shallow yet pervasive and socially acceptable ways of anxiety, cynicism, and self that seem normal and even good, until contrasted. Asking God to “lead me in Your way everlasting” is as much worshiping the awesomeness of a Holy, mind-blowing, and heart-supersaturating God who provides a way, as it is a plea for Him to lead me in that way (Psalm 142). And because of the absolute richness of His glory and the totally different way he provides to truly live life, with Jesus dwelling in our hearts and His very Spirit in our innermost beings, He invites us to take part in His own kingdom building. So, strengthen us, Lord, with your supernatural power that we would be rooted in the love of Christ and be filled to the very fullness of You! (Ephesians 3) - pause - Clearly the dominant life script is crumbling. Yet, we are able to stare hopelessness, anxiety, fear, shame, deception, and even death itself in the face and see instead the hope, peace, freedom, truth, and life of Christ! Where the enemy has propagated lying, cheating, stealing, killing, and destroying, Jesus brings life abundantly. When we get a taste of Jesus, like straight, undiluted Jesus, we can't not start to understand that we are all deeply loved and infinitely valuable. That love changes everything.
I never set out to make a cohesive series of songs, but it seems that there is a flow to this sequence nonetheless. I hope you find encouragement in these simple little songs, and if you’re not into them (which is totally fine), that in some other way you catch longer and deeper glimpses of freedom, wonder, surrender, truth, beauty, passion, hope, and life in Jesus.

Psalm 131 04:27
My heart’s not proud Nor my eyes haughty I’m not concerned with things too difficult for me O Lord! Like a child rests upon her mother’s chest My soul is quiet within me O my soul, hope in the Lord, now and forever! Lord, I trust in you.

Lead me in Your way, Your way everlasting!
3.
According to the riches of Your glory Strengthen us with power through Your Spirit in our inner being That Christ may dwell in our hearts That we’d be rooted and grounded in love We’d have the strength to comprehend and know the love of Christ And be filled to all the fullness of God

Where there's sadness, we still have joy When it seems hopeless, we have a Hope that never ceases And meets us in our weakness We have a Peace that stands in defiance to the storm We are deeply loved and infinitely valuable We are so deeply loved Our God is worthy of all things yet we're worth everything to Him How can we too not love? Where there's deception, we have the Truth Where there's death, life is created out of nothingness What was formless now has form and purpose is restored Where there was shame or guilt or fear, they have been driven out There is so much more to life that we have yet to see There is so much more that we have yet to be We have a light the darkness cannot overcome Let's tell the world! Let's show the world, “You are deeply loved and infinitely valuable “You are so deeply loved “Our God is worthy of all things yet you're worth everything to him “You are so deeply loved!”
